Colin Slotsticks last ride

Lance and Collin showed up a half hour after Tingey and I. Lance planed on taking some shots since he was injured in action a week ago. Collin, a youngster, and relatively new skimmer to the scene wanted in on the heavy water shore break of Yokes. This would be his first visit, and one not soon forgotten. Kind of like the trip I had there four years earlier when I cracked my skull open. Ah the memories.

Skimroach

Everyone caught as many waves as their legs would let them chase down. As the sun rendezvoused with the ocean, I saw Collin trying to pull a Jedi mind trick on his board and no that’s not a new skim maneuver. His board was floating about 15feet in front of him. For some reason he chose to stare it down instead of swim for it. He cross-stepped along the shoreline like a crab in the open, hoping, praying, wishing that his board would get lifted by one of the set waves and drop it at his feet. The longer he waited the further down the beach it went. We encouraged him to go get it, but he just stood there in disbelief, as he very well should. He was watching a year old, $400, Slotstick drift slowly, very slowly, out to sea. We asked repeatedly if he was going to go get it and all he could come up with was that he cherished his life more then that board. Which is I guess a good point. But what the hell, you got to make an effort.
