Micah McCarty Throwing Buckets
On the South-western coast is the town of Kihei, home to most of the skimmers who frequent nearby Makena. Known as Big Beach, its one of the largest white sand beaches in the islands. The many sections are named by the different park entrances. We sessioned 1st entrance on this trip. The waves were bigger than Kaanapali the day before, but smallish. The South swell did not get as big as predicted. It was one of the hottest days of the summer so the water felt good. The locals were ripping and we managed to get a few shots. Many people wonder about the Maui style skimboards. Makena is made for them, literally. Most of the waves break on dry sand and their narrow body allows them to turn on a dime and pull right in. They get in the air quick too.
