 | On any given day you can find a handful of skimmers at Sandy's. Like most shorebreaks, an incoming high tide offers the best conditions. Our tides vary from -.2ft to +2.8ft which isnt much.
Many different types of waves break here also. Because of it's location it catches swell from every direction except some N & NW. Big N swells bring in a kind of secondary liner that breaks off of the set wave and carries you down the beach on this crazy angle.
If you can do deep water take offs the possibilities are endless. Sometimes the best and biggest ones are right out there just past the reach of those who just do sand starts. | Sandys has no bad vibe or hassles. People here show you respect when you show them the same. Living on an island will do that to you. We have also learned to share the waves with non-skimmers by neccessity as most of the guys in the water are tougher than you.
If I had to choose a favorite skim spot I would say Sandy's for sure. As an all around, big wave spot its hard to beat.
