Big enough? Friday, March 16 2000
The day started off with anticipation of a HUGE NW swell, topping out at 20-25ft Hawaiian. Brady, Murray and myself planned to head up to Waimea Bay for an evening session. The normal rush hour traffic was doubled due to an overturned trash truck. But, by the time we had our first look at The Bay around 4:45pm we knew the drive was worth it...
Swell had arrived.
| | | The lifeguards, tired of babysitting tourists, leave for the day with one more megaphone announcement "if you get into trouble call 911!". Hard to do underwater....
These pictures do not do the place justice, the power is indescribeable. It often gets too big to skim and many of these beasts break on dry sand.
The session was super fun and everyone caught some sick waves. It was hard to stop skimming to take pictures so I hope you enjoy the few we ended up with. The next 3 pages are from that evening..
| Saturday was just as BIG with left to right siders that would take you way out to sea, sometimes leaving you there looking up at a horizon blocking wave. Unfortunately, it rained all day and we had to leave the camera in the car.
Until the next time...Aloha, Scotty | | | |
